Hi Kim,

Let's begin with consciousness. As Amit Goswami said, "There is nothing but God." Another way to say it is, "There is nothing but consciousness." Everything we are aware of, from what we sense in the world around us to what we think, create, and dream, is consciousness. What we regard as a solid physical world outside of us is really experiences we're having in consciousness, rather like a dream we're all having together. When we're dreaming, we know that everything in the dream is created by our mind--the same is true of life and consciousness. The Source of creation is one with our minds--we with the Source are creating the experiences that we call reality.

The conscience is where our individual minds are on our spiritual growth toward love, compassion, other-centeredness, and trust in the Source or God. We don't create a conscience. We experience what is already there. Feelings or emotion are the manifestation of conscience. When we have grown to be loving, compassionate, and other-centered, we will feel sad or dismayed if we do something that harms someone else. The emotion tells us that we have grown spiritually to a high level, and we call that high level a conscience, because we have negative feelings when we aren't being loving and compassionate. If we harm someone else and don't feel saddened by it, then we have less love, compassion, and other centeredness, resulting in no negative emotions. We would say our spiritual growth, and hence our consciousness, is at a lower level.

The notion of a conscience is just the emotions we feel in our relationships with other people that are a natural outgrowth of where we are spiritually--in feelings of love, compassion, and other-centeredness.

Love, peace, and joy
