Why Hell Doesn't Make Sense

There are many reasons why the Dogma of Hell makes no sense. Many scriptural reasons. Personally, I use to believe the Bible was the flawless "Word of God." I don't anymore. Nevertheless, in my mind, using scripture, I can prove that there is no Hell. And this is how.

It has everything to do with God's character and who we are in relation.

Dogmatically, people proclaim that there is one God who made all things. If that is true, if all things come from God, then we are all from God and of God.

God, in scripture, uplifts the importance of Family Relationship. Family, in its own right, is Sacred. I believe it is established as Sacred because it is through this symbol of relationship that God makes Himself known to us--As both Father and Mother. We are His (Her) children, not slaves or workers.

Furthermore, think about how God emphasizes taking good care of orphans, widows, and foreigners who are not rooted in the land...it's because they have no family. They are alone.

When Christ speaks of the Prodigal Son, this story is for any child who experiences separation from God and desires to return to that place of relationship with the source of all life. It says to that child, "There is nothing that can keep us separated. I race to meet you where you are when you are ready." The goal is to reestablish relationship; not to make right a list of wrongs or to balance some scale of justice.

For further confirmation of this idea, look at the relationship between King David and Absalom. David was considered a man after God's own heart.

Absalom kills his brother (who raped his sister) and later tries to kill David and take the throne. But David loves his son and tries to reunite with him, bring him back from banishment, even orders his soldiers not to kill Absalom.

As this tragic drama unfolds, in 2 Samuel 14:14, a wise woman is sent to David. She says to him, "Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him."

I don't think there is a more poetic illustration of the heart of God than these words and this story of David and his son.

And if this is the heart of God, then how could God possibly create a scenario of punishment, torture, from which there is absolutely no return.

Remember how difficult Christ said it was for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven...but also remember that he followed this by saying, "Nothing is impossible with God." There is always a way.

God speaks to us, teaches us, through parables, stories, and songs. And so much more. Perhaps if we paid more attention to what God is saying and less to the men in power, we might truly learn something and grow beyond this present darkness.
