Hi Kim,

All religions, as with all human organizations, are entirely physical-realm creations. Nothing in the physical realm is spiritual. What is spiritual is aside from or outside of the physical realm; what happens in the physical realm is only the outworking of what is in the spiritual realm.

We must evaluate them in the same way we would evaluate any business, organization, government, or other group that is in the physical realm. We must ask these questions:

1. Does this organization bring all people, regardless of belief, ethnicity, or nationality, into peace and harmony with all other people, without exclusion?

2. Does this organization bring all people into an intimate relationship with the Higher Power, those on the other side intent on helping humankind?

3. Does this organization help people become confident in and intent upon listening to the personal, unique, inner voice that is the Higher Self, the Higher Power, and those on the other planes of life giving guidance?

4. Does this organization help each person live a blissful, joy-filled life, loving and feeling loved by others, without feeling judged or condemned, accepted and loved unconditionally?

5. Does this organization bring people into a reverence and respect for nature and all the other beings in God's creation, especially animals?

Conversely, we must ask these questions about organizations that are not helpful to humankind spiritually:

1. Does this organization separate people, based on belief, ethnicity, or nationality, creating hostility, elitism, arrogance, and ultimately war?

2. Does this organization tell people that they cannot approach the Higher Power without their intervention, that those on the other side of life speaking to us are intent on doing evil so we shouldn't listen to them, and the only salvation for humankind is through their organization, its functionaries, and its texts?

3. Does this organization tell people that the inner voice they hear is an evil being, and that instead of listening to it, people should listen to the functionaries of the organization and do what they instruct people to do?

4. Does this organization tell people that they must give their belongings and money to their organization rather than use them for their comfort, that what they do in life must be what the organization dictates, not what they feel individually would bring them bliss, that if they don't do what the organization and its functionaries tell them to do, they will be judged, condemned, and unloved?

5. Does this organization tell people that they are superior to nature and animals, and that nature and animals are to be subdued and exploited as much as is necessary to help humankind progress into greater depths of materialism and excessive consumption?

We must evaluate all human organizations using the same criteria, including religions. And we must then decide whether to help the organizations bring the truth and insight to people based on our evaluations of them. I fear that religions fail many of the tests.

Love and peace, Craig
