Yes. The Earth plane is unique. It has a great number of levels of humanity, at a great number of levels of spiritual maturity, all of whom can mingle with each other.

On the next plane of life, we are told that people come into a level that is commensurate with the person's level of spiritual development. Those who are cruel and violent are with others who are cruel and violent, in a darker area (not a hell) because of their conditions of mind. They are together. They can't visit the higher planes, but those on higher planes can come down to them to help them. There is a separation among the planes.

On the Earth plane, we have all levels intermingled. We can go to those who are cruel and violent and they can come to us. The Earth plane is a microcosm of the spritual universe. Those on the other side tell us there are millions of planes, with people at various levels of spiritual maturity--from self-absorbed people who are insensitive and cruel, to other-centered people filled with love and compassion. If we look at the Earth plane, we can see all of those levels. Every group of people represents one of those planes. We can see what the spiritual universe, with its millions of planes, is like by looking at all the various shades of self-absorption and insensitivity or other-centeredness and love people have on the Earth plane. We have millions of planes on the Earth plane, but they mingle.

So, as you say, the Earth is the melting pot, or crucible. In this harsh environment, we learn lessons we couldn't lear if we were only with people of our own spiritual maturity.
